A Problem from Hell: America and the Age of Genocide
THURS, 03/13/08 (7:00PM)
The neighborhood of Lincoln Square has the Bookceller, a local bookstore known for its wine and reading atmosphere. Recently, I've missed the Amnesty International Book Group on February 4, 2008, as they discussed the book, After the Killing Fields: Lessons from the Cambodian Genocide by Craig Etcheson. Perhaps I might check out the the group's next discussion, A Problem from Hell: America and the Age of Genocide, by Samantha Power on March 13.
Did you know that there is an ongoing book discussion group about Cambodia? BuildCambodia meets Mondays over lunch at Au Bon Pain on Clark and Randolph.
Previous selections were:
Cambodia Now: Life in the Wake of War by Karen Coates
The Gate by Francois Bizot
Pol Pot, Anatomy of a Nightmare by Philip Short
Speaking of books, I recommend Leaving the House of Ghosts, by Sarah Streed, which is closer to home. She is a native of Wisconsin and the book includes stories of Cambodian refugees in the American Midwest.
